What's new

Everything that has arrived in Collectoh, a week at a time, newest first.

Week of 28 September 2026

  • Remote access when your router can't be reachedWith Plus, a server nobody can reach from outside, because your provider shares one address between many homes or you can't change the router, can be reached through Collectoh Relay. What passes is encrypted from the viewer's device to your server, so the relay can't read it, and apps still try your server's own addresses first. See Watching away from home.
  • Metadata with nothing to set upAs on Plex, there are no API keys to find. TMDB, TheTVDB, fanart.tv, TheAudioDB, Google Books and OpenSubtitles answer through your Collectoh account. A key of your own still works, and sends that catalogue's lookups straight to it.
  • Off-site backupsWith Plus, your server can keep each night's backup of its database and settings with your Collectoh account, sealed with a passphrase only you know, so a new server can come back to everything. See Backup and restore.
  • TheTVDB, built inShow libraries can take descriptions, artwork and episode details from TheTVDB, in broadcast, DVD or absolute order.
  • Episode orderA show library can follow broadcast order, DVD order or absolute numbering, so episodes match however your files count them.
  • TheAudioDB for musicArtists and albums gain biographies, moods, pictures and album notes from TheAudioDB, with no key needed.
  • Metadata agents, listed plainlyA library's metadata agents are now a list you can reorder, and any agent that can't run yet says what it's waiting for, such as a key or a plugin.
  • Settings for pluginsA plugin that needs an API key or other settings asks for them on the Plugins page, and a secret is never shown again once it's saved.

Week of 21 September 2026

  • Search by meaningSearch now finds the moments in lessons and videos that talk about what you asked in other words, listed under "Moments about this", each a link to that second in the player.
  • Sounds like this, and SegueCollectoh listens to every track on your own server, so similar tracks and radio follow the sound itself, and a segue plays a path from one song to another.
  • Face recognitionA photo library can find the faces in its photos overnight and gather them into groups for you to name, entirely on your server, with one button to delete it all.
  • Photos tagged by what's in themSwitch it on for a photo library and each photo gets keywords such as beach, sunset, dog or birthday, which you can filter by and edit.
  • DLNA for older TVsTelevisions, consoles and AV receivers that only speak DLNA can browse and play from your libraries at home; it stays off until you switch it on, and it tells you plainly that DLNA has no sign-in.
  • Play on another screenA cast button in the header lists the other screens with Collectoh open that you may play to, hands over what you're playing from where you are, and turns this one into its remote.
  • Smart playlistsA playlist can be a set of rules, including how often and how recently you've played something, and it keeps itself up to date.
  • Made for phonesOn a phone the sidebar becomes a drawer, library filters open as a sheet, and the player's controls fold into a menu.

Week of 14 September 2026

  • Watch TogetherStart a room from a film, an episode or a video, and everyone in it plays, pauses and seeks together, with a chat beside the picture.
  • TV modeThe whole app can be driven with a remote's arrows, Enter and Back, with larger type and a clear focus outline for the sofa.
  • A page for everyone in the castEvery name in a cast list opens a page showing what you have of theirs, the part they played, and what else they're in that isn't on your server.
  • Cloud drivesA library can include folders from OneDrive, Google Drive or Dropbox, and members can bring photos from their own drive into a Memories library.
  • Poster designerAnything without a poster can have one made in the browser, in six styles drawn from its own details and colours.
  • Library types of your ownBuild a type such as "Guitar Courses" on top of a built-in one, with its own icon, card shape and fields.
  • AccessibilityEvery grid can be walked with the arrow keys, the focus outline can't be themed away, motion can be reduced, and subtitles can be restyled to suit your eyes.
  • A documented API and pluginsThe whole API is described in a public reference, API keys can be limited to just what they need, and plugins can add metadata sources or storage after a permission prompt.

Week of 7 September 2026

  • Skip intro and creditsCollectoh finds the opening a season's episodes share and where the credits begin, then offers a Skip button, or skips for you if you'd like.
  • Hardware transcodingConversions can run on NVIDIA, Intel, AMD or Apple graphics, fall back to the processor when the hardware is busy or fails, and tone-map HDR for ordinary screens.
  • Subtitles, found and fixedSubtitles can be searched for from the player, styled subtitles are drawn as they were made, and Fix sync listens to the dialogue to put a drifting track back in time.
  • Disc folders and ISOsDVD and Blu-ray rips kept as VIDEO_TS, BDMV or ISO images play their main feature, with chapters and subtitles.
  • Editions and extrasA film's Theatrical and Director's Cut share one card with separate watched states, and its trailers, featurettes and deleted scenes are grouped on its page.
  • Radio, lyrics and crossfadeStart a radio from a track, an album or an artist, follow synced lyrics line by line, and fade between tracks without breaking a gapless album.
  • Themes and your own home screenChoose from seven built-in themes or make your own in a live editor, and arrange the home screen's rows with a preview as you go.
  • Books and comicsA Books library browsed by series and author, with a reader in the app for EPUB, PDF, MOBI and comics that remembers your page.

Week of 31 August 2026

  • Films and TV that sort themselves outPoint Collectoh at your folders and it reads the names, NFO files and artwork already there, brings in the rest from TMDB, and lets you browse while it scans.
  • Plays in your browserFiles play as they are when the browser can manage them and are converted as they stream when it can't, and Continue Watching picks up where you stopped.
  • CoursesFolders of lessons become courses with sections, progress, streaks, timestamped notes and bookmarks, and transcripts you can search.
  • Music and audiobooksA gapless music player keeps playing while you browse, and audiobooks resume to the second, with chapters, speed control and a sleep timer.
  • Photos and home videosPhotos get a timeline, albums, a map and slideshows, HEIC and RAW included, and home videos can be browsed by folder or by date.
  • Family and friendsInvite people with a link, choose which libraries each can see, set age limits and viewing hours for children, and protect profiles with a PIN.
  • Downloads and ChromecastTake a film or a whole course offline, or send what's playing to a Chromecast from where you'd got to.
  • A four-step setupThe first-run wizard takes you from an empty server to a scanning library, and shows what it will find in a folder before it starts.
