Every platform
-
Windows
For Windows 10 and 11, 64-bit. Installs as a service that starts with Windows.
Collectoh-Setup-x64.exe
-
macOS
For macOS 13 Ventura or later, on Apple silicon and Intel. Runs its server in the background.
Collectoh.dmg
-
Linux
For Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora and friends. Installs as a system service that starts at boot.
64-bit x86
-
Docker
The server with its database beside it, in one compose file. For x86-64 and ARM64.
docker compose
-
NAS
Synology, QNAP, Unraid and TrueNAS, from the app centre or with the Docker image.
App centre or Docker
Then open http://localhost:8080 on that computer, or its name at port 8080 from any device at home, and sign in with your free Collectoh account. The quick start takes it from there.
Docker
Running in a minute.
The compose file runs Collectoh, its PostgreSQL database and a Redis job queue. The third line writes a .env with a fresh secret key and database password; put your own media folder in it.
- Your media is mounted read-only, so nothing can change it.
- The database includes the vector extension that search by meaning uses.
- Update with
docker compose pull && docker compose up -d.

$ mkdir collectoh && cd collectoh
$ curl -fsSLO https://collectoh.com/docker-compose.yml
$ printf 'SECRET_KEY=%s\nDB_PASSWORD=%s\nMEDIA_DIR=/path/to/your/media\n' \
"$(openssl rand -hex 32)" "$(openssl rand -hex 16)" > .env
$ docker compose up -d
Hardware transcoding with Intel, AMD or NVIDIA graphics: add the GPU overlay.
$ curl -fsSLO https://collectoh.com/docker-compose.gpu.yml
$ docker compose -f docker-compose.yml -f docker-compose.gpu.yml up -d
On your NAS
Right where your media lives.
Install Collectoh from your NAS's app centre where it's listed, or run the Docker image with your media share mounted. Set PUID and PGID to the user that owns your media, and point MEDIA_DIR at the share.
Synology
MEDIA_DIR=
/volume1/mediaContainer Manager takes the compose file as a project.
QNAP
MEDIA_DIR=
/share/MultimediaContainer Station takes the compose file as an application.
Unraid
MEDIA_DIR=
/mnt/user/mediaRun the compose file with the Compose Manager plugin.
TrueNAS
MEDIA_DIR=
/mnt/<pool>/mediaInstall it as a custom app from the compose file.
A smaller NAS? Switch on Admin → Settings → Low-priority scanning, so a scan never makes playback stutter. With an Intel processor, the GPU overlay gives it hardware transcoding.
System requirements
What it runs on.
| System | 64-bit Windows 10 or 11, macOS 13 or later, Linux, or a NAS that runs Docker. The Docker images are built for x86-64 and ARM64. |
|---|---|
| Processor | Anything recent plays files as they are. Converting 4K, HDR or several streams at once wants a strong processor, or Intel Quick Sync, AMD, NVIDIA or Apple graphics. |
| Memory | The on-server features for faces, tags, music and search each use up to about half a gigabyte while they work, and let it go when they're idle. |
| Disk | Room for artwork and scrubbing thumbnails, which grows with your library, and a fast disk for conversions. |
| Network | Port 8080 reachable from the devices that will watch. |
| Watching | Any current web browser: Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox, on a computer, phone, tablet or television. |
Watch everywhere
Nothing to install on your screens.
