The Collectoh tour

  1. Collectoh's home screen changing as someone makes it theirs: the Cinema theme and a family's own logo, which also becomes the browser tab's icon, then the Light theme with an accent colour of their own and another logo.

    01Make it yours Plus

Your logo. Your colours. Your cinema.

Upload your logo and Collectoh wears it: in the app, on the sign-in page, on the loading screen and in the browser tab. Pick one of seven themes, or open the theme editor and set every colour yourself, with your own CSS and a background picture if you like. Every change shows the moment you make it.

    • A home screen you arrange, an icon for every library and posters you design
    • Everyone you share with picks a theme of their own

PlexEvery screen wears Plex's name and logo, whatever you pay. Its colour themes are Plex's own presets.

CollectohIt wears yours, on every screen your family signs in to.

  2. A Collectoh server at home sending a film to a phone on a train, through Collectoh Relay, which passes it along sealed; a direct route is tried first.

    02Watch from anywhere

Away from home, nothing more to buy.

Watching away from home is part of Collectoh, for you and for everyone you share with. They need no pass and no account of their own, only your invitation. When your router can't be reached, Collectoh Relay finds the way home: free at a quality fine for a phone, in HD with Plus.

    • Straight to your server whenever it can be, through the relay when it can't
    • Sealed from your server to the screen: the relay carries what it can't read

PlexStreaming your own media away from home takes a Plex Pass, or a Remote Watch Pass at $2.99 a month.

CollectohFree, for everyone you share with.

  3. A list of features that need Plex Pass on Plex and are free on Collectoh: hardware transcoding, HDR tone-mapping, skip intro and credits, downloads, synced lyrics, radio and every music feature, trailers and extras, and parental controls.

    03Free on Collectoh

What Plex Pass charges for, free.

The things Plex keeps behind Plex Pass come with every Collectoh server, at no cost and with no account limits: transcoding on your graphics card, 4K and HDR on any screen, skipping the intro, downloads for the plane, synced lyrics and radio, and parental controls for the children.

    • Unlimited people, profiles and screens
    • Casting, DLNA, plugins and the API, all free too
  4. Ten kinds of library in Collectoh: films, TV, anime, music, audiobooks, books and comics, courses, games, photos and home videos.

    04Everything you own

A proper home for every kind of media.

Films and shows, anime numbered the way fans count it, music, audiobooks, books and comics, photos and home videos: each has a library made for it, with its own player and its own way of keeping your place. Plus adds courses, with progress, notes and transcripts, and games, with older consoles played in the browser.

PlexNo library for audiobooks, books, comics, courses or games.

CollectohEach one has its own, made for the way it's used.

  5. A course in Collectoh: someone asks "stack or queue, what's the difference?" and the search finds the moments in Lecture 0 of CS50's Introduction to AI with Python where each is explained, then jumps the lecture to 26:03.

    05Courses Plus

Ask in your own words. Land on the answer.

Folders of lessons become real courses, with sections, progress, streaks, notes and bookmarks. Collectoh reads the subtitles that come with each lesson, so you can search for an idea rather than a word and jump straight to the moment it's explained.

PlexNo courses: lessons are videos in a folder.

CollectohProgress, notes, and search by meaning.

The lecture is CS50's Introduction to Artificial Intelligence with Python by Harvard University, CC BY-NC-SA 4.0; its lines are quoted from its own subtitles.

  6. A family photo at the sea in Collectoh, the three faces in it found and named Mum, Jamie and Ellie, and the photo tagged beach, sea and family.

    06Memories

Every face. Every place. Found at home.

Your photos and home videos, on a timeline and a map. Turn on face recognition and Collectoh finds the faces overnight and gathers the ones that look alike for you to name; photos are tagged by what's in them, too. It all happens on your own server, and all face data goes with one click.

    • Faces and tags come with Plus; your photos, the map and the timeline are free

PlexNo face recognition, and it switched off photo tagging in 2023.

CollectohFaces found on your own hardware, and named by you.

  7. Four people in different homes watching the same film in step, with a chat beside it; when Priya pauses, every screen pauses, and it plays again for everyone when she is back.

    07Watch Together Plus

    Movie night, miles apart.

Start Watch Together and everyone plays in step. One pause pauses every screen, one skip moves the whole room, and the chat sits beside the film. Starting a room takes Plus; joining one is free for everyone you invite.

    • Profiles, limits and history of their own for everyone you invite
    • Send what you're watching to the big screen with a tap

PlexDropped Watch Together from its new apps; only its web app still has it.

CollectohA room for everyone, with a chat beside the film.

  8. Folders and files named the way Plex likes them, with their NFO files and posters, coming into Collectoh as they are: a film with its edition, a show by season and an album.

    08Coming from Plex

Bring your library as it is.

Point Collectoh at the folders your Plex library already uses. It understands the same names, editions included, and the NFO files and artwork beside your media, so it comes in as it is. Then it finds every poster and summary itself, with no API keys to collect.

    • Jellyfin and Kodi names and NFO files too
    • Playlists come in from any M3U file
  9. A Collectoh server sending its nightly off-site backup, sealed with the owner's passphrase: the database and settings, kept for 30 days, while the media stays at home.

    09Yours alone

    Your server. Your business.

Collectoh runs on your own hardware. Faces and tags are worked out there, and the relay carries only what it can't read. With Plus, your server's database and settings go off-site every night, sealed with a passphrase that never leaves your server, ready for a new machine if the old one dies.

    • Restore by signing in and typing the passphrase
    • Backups on your own disks are free

PlexCopies its database to the same disk every three days. Nothing goes off-site.

CollectohEvery night, off-site, sealed with your passphrase.

  10. Collectoh Plus at $3.99 a month, $24.99 a year or $49.99 for life, beside Plex Pass at $6.99, $69.99 and $749.99; watching away from home is free on Collectoh.

    10The price

More for less, and nothing else to buy.

Collectoh is free to run, for every film, show, song, book and photo you own. Plus adds courses, your own logo and themes, faces, Watch Together and the relay in HD, from $2.08 a month billed yearly. One Plus covers your server and everyone you share it with.
